Baking Friday...

Grace's first birthday party was set for the 4th of June & I offered to make some duckie cupcakes & a cake topper for her birthday cake... It took me a few days to make all of these & I had a lot of fun mixing colours and trying to figure out how to make a duck not look like a chicken!! These were the results:

...and while I was at it, I baked a cake (mom's fail-safe best chocolate cake recipe) for Danelle's birthday party which we attended on the night of the 3rd which I decorated with loads of 'plastic icing stars'! :

Baking

Geoff and I decided to get creative in the kitchen & make something out of Tina Bester's book, "Bake". We made the Chocolate / Almond pastry rolls. It was a lot of fun...plus we got to eat a LOT of chocolate :)

The Christmas Gift Fair

T'Neal and I went to The Christmas Gift Fair on Thursday morning of this past week. It was the last day that it was on & we didn't want to miss it.. We had such a lovely time...! Grace was as good as gold (as usual) & at one point, she had everybody within earshot smiling as she was laughing and making the cutest sounds.

The Christmas Gift Fair was quite different this year - no cheesy Christmas music on repeat... a more spacious layout & some really high class exhibitors. Tina Bester was there with her book, BAKE, which I absolutely love...I love it even more that she had a few of her bakes on sale! This year, there was a sit-down-and-drink-coffee (-and-eat-Tina-Bester's-cake) which we enjoyed making use of!

The Best Book Launch I Ever Missed

Tina Bester from an AMAZING little bakery/coffee shop in Obs called "Queen of Tarts" has launched her new book - 'bake'.

The title of this blog may suggest that I was glad to have missed the book launch at our local, Kalk Bay Books last Friday. This is by NO MEANS true. The truth is that I had it diarised for 3 weeks........ but we decided to go away for Geoff's birthday weekend (which was rather awesome too.....) so I could not go.

I did not even know what was in store for the attendees of this book launch or I may have done a beg and a plead to leave at sparrows on Saturday morning...because this:

fellow cake enthusiasts, is a picture that my sister in law, Colleen, took with her cell phone at the very event.

Truely: The best book launch ever -- and I missed it.
